MFA is offering a National Fire Academy 2-day class in Springfield on June 3-4, Wildland-Urban Interface Risk Assessment & Mitigation for the Fire Service F2292 (description below)
The National Fire Academy has partnered with the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Foundation to offer a new, premier wildland-urban interface (WUI) course: "Wildland-Urban Interface Risk Assessment & Mitigation for the Fire Service." This two-day course (16 instruction hours) brings science-based fire engineering research and guidance to fire service personnel operating in WUI areas. Drawing on codes and standards, the SFPE Foundation WUI Virtual Handbook, and many other resources, this course provides a basic overview of fire dynamics; fire modeling; human behavior in fire; structural and property hardening; fire protection systems; risk assessment methods, models, and training; stakeholder engagement; community notification and evacuation; codes, standards, and case studies; community hazard assessment, community design and protection; community education, messaging, and partnerships; and, infrastructure hardening. Led by experienced instructors with fire protection engineering and fire service experience, the course is designed for a maximum of 25 students and utilizes lecture and group activities in a highly interactive setting to promote learning.While most suitable for those with little to no prior WUI training experience, the course contains information that is likely to add value to fire service personnel on the planning and prevention side at all levels. This course would also be suitable for personnel in building and planning departments, code officials, or community risk reduction personnel in WUI or WUI-adjacent communities. All students who satisfactorily complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion from the National Fire Academy and a Certificate of Completion from the SFPE Foundation with ICC credit hours.
