The National Fire Academy has partnered with the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Foundation to offer a new, premier wildland-urban interface (WUI) course: "Wildland-Urban Interface Risk Assessment & Mitigation for the Fire Service." This two-day course (16 instruction hours) brings science-based fire engineering research and guidance to fire service personnel operating in WUI areas. Drawing on codes and standards, the SFPE Foundation WUI Virtual Handbook, and many other resources, this course provides a basic overview of fire dynamics; fire modeling; human behavior in fire; structural and property hardening; fire protection systems; risk assessment methods, models, and training; stakeholder engagement; community notification and evacuation; codes, standards, and case studies; community hazard assessment, community design and protection; community education, messaging, and partnerships; and,…
